Early/Mid Game you generally have to make a quick choice to go Roaches vs Banelings.

In my experience both units are very powerful for tier 1, but I've had a little more success with Banelings vs Terran (unless they go mauraders) and Roaches vs Zerg.

Mass Banelings have ended a lot of games early for me, but I'm not sure if they're worth going until I have a sizable roach force.

Which do you tend to go first?

Roaches are the more common to go. They are wonderful at soaking up damage and are kinda easy to micro when you get burrow. Just burrow them and they'll heal pretty quick.

Banelings seem to have been seriously nerfed since before. Currently they deal 15+20 to light units And 80 to buildings. They're a bit useful very early.

But it's all up to you. Would you rather have long-lasting units that deal some ranged unit and are great at soaking up damage, or would you rather have a bunch of large-damaging units that are only really cost-effective against light units and buildings?

You also gotta look at the situation. All the units are good against some, and bad against others.

Currently I entirely skip Roaches and go for Baneling. This is not because I think Banelings are better but due to lack of my experience. I also need no new larvae for Banelings.

Until now I was either rushed within 5 minutes or I could go to late game and tech to Brood Lords. Those guys rock.

I still have to try Ling+Roach as opener. Lings to deal damage, Roaches to eat damage.
