There has been rumors about hydralisks now have melee attack in sc2, anyone about to clear out on that? if melee attack is true, then is there 2 set of damage point/type or simply an animation variation?

Reading through, it only seems like an animation. I have doubts it'll be counted as another attack type entirely. Sure, that'd be very nice to have, but it just doesn't seem realistic for Blizzard to do that. Hydralisks are supposed to be anti-air, right? So why would they give them something different specifically for melee? Regardless of their claws, they're ranged units at heart.

animations in both sc and sc2 suggested that hydralisks do do melee attack ;) The theory is, the move to tier 2 may make hydralisk more than what we know of – Lorem Dec 23 at 9:09

Yes, we can only hope. ^.^ Well, I don't hope... I don't want Hydralisks tearing up my Zealots at close range. :o – Artanis186 Dec 23 at 12:23

It has been confirmed that the Hydralisk Melee attack will deal the same amount of damage as its regular ranged attack - it is an animation only, though a damn cool one!

Do you have link to official announcement on such? or perhaps a video that demonstrate melee attack deal the same damage as range attack? Thanks! – Lorem Jan 11 at 22:47

I have looked through the various short videos featuring Hydralisks, but as I remember it I saw the Melee attack animations in Battle Report 2, the one with the desert map. I'm not entirely certain, but I think so. Here's a link to my own library of the SC2 Battle Reports: polygonrevue.com/2009/06/… – Polygon reVue Jan 12 at 15:41

Unfortunately it is not. I know many longed for hope but the chance just never came.
