How do upgrades for viking work? Since it transforms between 'vehicle' and 'ship', does it take all 4 upgrades from armory?

for Protoss and Terran, I think all upgrades are now visually visible but what about zerg? I don't think (from replay videos) I able to spot evo chamber doing upgrades.
